It's been a while...

...but spring is in the air. And lately I have spent more time in the yard then at the sewing machine.
There's lots to be done out there, and I have to take advantage of the novelty of spring. The sunshine feels so good and it's exciting to see everything come alive. Come August, yard work may not elicit the same excitement. :)

But I did sneak in a few quick sewing sessions - just enough to finish Little Owls.

This quilt was really fun to put together - big blocks make a bold statement and quick work! I'm sharing the very simple process here: Little Owls Baby Quilt Pattern / Tutorial.

I quilted a bracket frame around those cute little owls, and chose to echo quilt around the sashing and each inner frame. Then I braved an allover geometric design for the rest of the block. As I mentioned before, this inspiration came from Angela Walter's book. I was a bit nervous at first, but it turned out to be much easier than I anticipated. It's not perfect, but I'm pleased! Glad to have found another quilting option I can manage - especially one that is great for a boys' quilts!

The backing fabric brings in all the colors from the quilt front.  It's a little busy, but for a little boy's quilt, it seems fitting. This quilt measures about 40" x 53".

Destination is still to be decided. So far, I have only made two charity quilts this year and the others will all be baby gifts. So fun to have so many new babies on the way! So, depending on the gender of one more little bundle of love....this one may be added to the stack of gifts as well.
