Gather Love

Yep, I am working on another baby quilt for a friend due this summer! This are my favorite projects!
This quilt is for one of my best friends and her baby girl.

While trying to make a plan, I spent a lot of time looking over my notebook of sketches as well as my pinterest boards and other people's tutorials. I kept coming back to this one, Gather Love by Little Birdie Secrets, because of the ruffles in the center. I hope she'll like it!

I picked an assortment of prints including pink, green, and aqua. I'll use Kona Bona for the sashing (yes, predictable. But I love it!)

And the backing fabric will probably be my favorite part of the quilt! This print is Sweetest Bird in blue by Riley Blake.

Wish me luck!

Leapfrog

Geez! Summer is in full swing here and it's been hot! We've already had our fair share of popsicles and homemade ice cream, and today was spent at the splash park. Lots of time spent with my favorite little man...

and a new puppy too! The two of them have kept me pretty busy the last several weeks. Not as much sewing as I would like.

Last weekend while my husband was gone camping, I did spend a couple late hours in the craft room finishing this quilt. I never know what to call a quilt, but the word "leapfrog" kept coming to mind with this one. The alternating squares must remind me of the childhood game. And maybe the green and blue combo reminds me of frogs? Don't know exactly, but the name has stuck.

This is another quick and easy baby quilt made from a small pile of quarter yards or fat quarters and a background fabric.

I quilted a meandering pattern, a safe and efficient choice for me. This quilt is a gift for a friend who is due with a baby boy pretty soon, so I didn't dare experiment.

Remember I said I wanted to back this quilt with that super sweet cloud print? Well.....after washing and drying, that fabric was just a little bit shy of the width needed for this quilt top. The top is 42" wide and I designed it that way intentionally. I really like a generous baby quilt, so I try to utilize the full width of the backing fabric. Brands vary a bit, and it turns out that fabric was not quite as wide as others. Disappointed.  But I found a green dot that blends well enough I suppose.

In the end, I'm really happy with this quilt and would make this pattern again. (It's my own simple design. If I can get a few minutes, I'll write up the process to share.) It's playful and easy and makes a great baby quilt. Hopefully it's well received; super excited to meet the little bundle of love!
